Abstract

Currently the informational bottleneck located between current simulation solutions and manufacturing systems generates migration issues when swapping from one to the other. Overcoming this gap will yield superior agility when implementing production optimized scenarios from the simulation to the manufacturing system. In the context of new emerging technologies, with distributed control and OPC UA middleware, we will propose a new simulation architecture that could unify the two different engineering perspectives and offer a holistic view of the real processes and a better manufacturing simulation and automation connection by focusing to reach a functional abstraction level. Consequently we will derive Service-oriented Architecture (SoA) concepts to adapt them to the problem field. Also, a first architecture prototype implementation demonstrates the basic functionality and the technical feasibility of the new simulation architectural approach.
