Model-Driven HMI Development in the Automotive Industry

Model-Driven HMI Development in the Automotive Industry

  • Duration:

The German automotive manufacturing and supplier industry is leading in the world. Many important and successful innovations of these days are related to so-called hidden technologies like infotainment and communication functions or driver assistance systems. The decisive factor for the success of such innovations is often an appropriate, easy and intuitive to use human-machine-interface (HMI) that efficiently supports the driver in his interaction with the vehicle.

Objective of the project automotiveHMI is the optimization of the development processes for automotive HMI-systems. An integrated approach based on standardized exchange formats, models and interfaces will lead to an increased efficiency in automotive HMI-development with benefits for the entire supply chain: from the vehicle manufacturer and its suppliers to the developers of specialized development tools.

A model-based approach is required for the iterative refinement of system specifications for complex automotive HMI-systems leading to formal and machine readable exchange documents. Thus today’s digital divide resulting from inconsistent exchange formats and paper based workflows among the process participants can be overcome.

The resulting increase in development efficiency at all stages - from the system specification to the testing of the implemented HMI-system – will be an additional competitive edge for the German automotive industry.

The project automotiveHMI is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).
