EIT Manufacturing is a consortium of 50 European partners from 17 countries, including Volvo, Tecnalia, Vienna University of Technology, CEA (French Commission for Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy), Siemens, Slovakian Technical University and Whirlpool EMEA. Main objective of the Innovation Community is to promote a globally competitive and sustainable production in Europe. For this purpose, a network of ecosystems is established to qualify skilled workers for the professional world of tomorrow; and to make innovators even more attractive for investors.
To achieve these goals, the EIT has set up five co-location centres (CLCs) across Europe to promote innovation, capacity building and ecosystem development on a regional level. Together with eight other German partners, DFKI forms the Innovation Hub CLC Central in Darmstadt, which also includes the Netherlands and Belgium.
The network is supported by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), an independent EU institution that seeks to enable innovators to turn their best ideas into products, services and jobs for Europe.
