Prof. Volker Markl admitted to the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, which looks back on an eventful history under changing names, was reconstituted in 1992 by a state treaty between the states of Berlin and Brandenburg in the tradition of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. It serves the advancement of science, performs tasks of social and political consulting, promotes the dialogue between science and society, and supports the institutional cooperation of non-university research with the universities in Berlin and Brandenburg.

Prof. Markl is Chief Scientist and head of the research department "Intelligent Analytics for Mass Data - Smart Data" at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). At the same time, he is co-director of the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD). At the Technical University of Berlin, he heads the Department of Database Systems and Information Management (DIMA).

At DFKI in Berlin, Prof. Markl and his team conduct research in particular on methods, technologies and tools for data analytics, taking into account the entire data value chain: from data acquisition and information extraction, information integration and storage, to scalable data processing, interactive analysis and visualization, taking into account cloud computing, distributed processing and modern computer architectures.
