Dr. Vladislav Golyanik received his diploma in computer science from the Moscow Aviation Institute of the National Research University Moscow in 2010 and his M.Sc. in computer science from the University of Ulm in 2013. From 2013 to 2018 he worked as a research assistant for his dissertation at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern in the Research Department Augmented Vision under the direction of Prof. Didier Stricker, and received his PhD from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern in 2019. He is currently a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Computer Science, Saarbrücken, in the Graphics, Vision and Video group.
In his dissertation titled "Robust methods for dense monocular non-rigid 3D reconstruction and point cloud alignment" Vladislav Golyanik presented numerous contributions in the areas of monocular 3D reconstruction of non-rigid scenes and point set registration. The proposed methods are original, mathematically sound and have always been evaluated very carefully. In addition to the theoretical contributions, Dr. Golyanik proposed algorithms for efficient implementations of the methods, which were tested in the context of real applications. The jury judged the thesis to be "very well written, clearly structured and an excellent reference work for researchers in this field".
The Dissertation Award is donated by MVTec Software GmbH and consists of a financial award of 2500 euros.
