Research and development in the field of 6G, one of the key technologies for applications and infrastructure in the healthcare sector in the coming decade, is the focus of the 6G Health project. Networking offers considerable potential for efficient patient care. Future-proof healthcare will become the driving force behind development with 6G Health. The medical technology sector, as an innovative industry of the future, a pillar of the German economy and an international showcase, is the ideal foundation for this. In the vision of a 6G medical technology infrastructure, new perspectives are opening up through the efficient and secure collection, processing, transmission and use of data, realized through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and security-by-design. In this context, 6G-Health is developing technology components to integrate more powerful sensor technology in 6G (e.g. radar- or camera-based), complemented by advanced network intelligence, enabling innovative approaches to patient monitoring, to provide advanced functionalities through the network, in particular technologies for collaborative decision making, incl. Augmented Reality (AR), and by using distributed computing resources with efficient pre-processing on sensor level, as well as for the realization of an infrastructure in the Smart Hospital, which enables novel services, e.g. in the area of diagnostics, treatment, quality management or logistics, but also significant efficiency advantages, through orchestration and data aggregation. In the spectrum of medical technology, the project concentrates on three scenarios: the patient in focus: patient monitoring also outside the clinic, using the example of patients with artificial hearts, the treating parties in focus: (a) new forms of collabo-rative work with complex data in tumor boards and (b) telemedically supported, intra-operative neuromonitoring, and the processes in focus: the smart hospital with (a) workflow-supported systems, (b) intelligent sensor technology and (c) asset tracking.
