Innovative information and communication technologies are key drivers in the development of today's production environments: At the communication level, they enable ever faster wireless data connections, for example through the use of 5G technology. On the data and information processing level, AI and machine learning methods support the efficient and effective use of very large amounts of data. Not only can individual existing production processes be optimized, but technical and organizational innovations along the entire process chain are conceivable.
The project "AIRPoRT" aims at the development, optimization and testing of these technologies. The cooperation partners contribute their specific focal points and experience: The DFKI department "Smart Data & Knowledge Services" develops innovative analysis methods for sensor data using AI. The researchdepartment "Smart Networks" is responsible for embedding modern network technologies in an intelligent connectivity platform. The process architecture and coordination procedures for robot teams are developed by Fraunhofer IPA, a comprehensive risk governance strategy by Fraunhofer IAO. The latter is intended to ensure that production plants in multi-organizational process structures can be secured proactively and in an economically viable manner. AIRPoRT closely co-operates with its Japanese twin project at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).
