The "fourth industrial revolution" describes the development of production facilities to fully connected factories. Each workpiece is worked on individually according to customer specification. Maintenance and control is no longer bound to physical proximity. Thanks to omnipresent connectivity it is possible in excess of the boundaries of the production site. Mobile handheld devices connect to wireless networks without user interaction. Intelligent workpieces carry all the information needed for their processing.
The infrastructure necessary for this scenarios is being implemented sucessively in production sites. The ever-increasing transmission of data, the growing number of connected devices and the shift of value creation from physical products to intellectual properties pose a rising demand on security in information and communication systems. Important data needs to be safeguarded accordingly, communication channels to critical units of a company need to be secured.
The "National reference project for IT-Security in Industry 4.0 (IUNO)" is supposed to design protective measures against the dangers for companies that result of growing inteconnectivity. With the help of exemplary implementations, concepts and methods to increase security, recognize and protect important assets as well as protect intellectual properties will be designed. Not only big, but also small and medium-size companies will be able to implement the solutions. This is done by a so-called "toolbox" that contains platform- and system-independent, scalable solutions. Companies of any size will have the ability to create tailor-made security-solutions from this toolbox. Besides many research institutes, a lot of industrial partners participate in IUNO. This ensures a high praxis relevance of the model-implementations as well as a good practicability of the solutions.
