The TAILOR project was selected by the European Commission in the ICT-48-2020 call for proposals "Towards a vibrant European network of AI excellence centres" to form a strong research network of academic institutions and industry partners to develop the scientific basis for trustworthy artificial intelligence (Trustworthy AI). In particular, the dimensions of explainability, safety, fairness, liability/responsibility and reproducibility, data protection and privacy as well as sustainability will be appropriately addressed by using approaches from the field of machine learning, optimization methods and approaches of reasoning and combining or integrating them in a meaningful way. The consortium is led by Dr. Fredrik Heintz, who is a researcher at Linköping University in Sweden and is also President of the Swedish AI Society (SAIS) and member of the extended leadership team of CLAIRE.
In TAILOR, DFKI will lead a work package focusing on collaboration between the network's centers of excellence and industrial partners representing different sectors (e.g. automotive industry, Industry 4.0, health care, public administration, energy sector). The aim is to identify, define and prioritize common research questions and core topics that promote the use of a trusted AI in the respective industrial context. In addition to the development of a strategic research and innovation roadmap, suitable formats and structures (e.g. transfer labs, joint doctoral programs) are to be developed and tested on the basis of concrete use cases, which support an early transfer of research results into operational practice.TAILOR is also one of the 4 new Networks of Excellence coordinated by VISION to foster collaboration between the best research teams in Europe and to address the major scientific and technological challenges in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) more efficiently.
