Abstract

In a wireless industrial control, the control requirements of closed loop feedback systems varies as per the applications. Therefore, the control aspects are crucial while designing the communication system to efficiently use the channel resources. In this paper, we study the impact of varying control requirements on the control aware resource allocation and scheduling. We consider resource allocation for an edge cloud operated Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) to send the control packets over wireless Rayleigh fading channel from the cloud to the AGVs. We analyse the impact of control requirements like control error threshold, channel outage tolerance and stability etc, on the number of AGVs that can be served successfully in a system. The results show that more number of AGVs can be served if the AGVs have higher error threshold, and higher tolerance to channel outages. However, above certain error threshold the number of successful AGVs remain constant. Furthermore, the paper investigates the interdependence of error probability, probability of instability, channel outages and the AGV's control error. Moreover an optimal error probability threshold is evaluated for MCS selection that increases the resource efficiency while satisfying the control requirements.
