Abstract
In the field of vehicular systems, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications are crucial for advancing toward an intelligent driving future. As the Fifth Generation (5G) and Beyond 5G (B5G) wireless communications continue to evolve, providing higher bandwidth, lower latency, and more robust connectivity, the number of autonomous vehicles is projected to rise. To understand the interactions and complexities of these systems and to evaluate various usage scenarios, reliable simulation environments that accurately depict vehicular network dynamics are essential. This work presents an overview of 5G simulation software suitable for V2X applications, which are fundamental for the development of vehicular systems. This examination not only provides insights into these tools but also serves as a resource for researchers when selecting the optimal platform for specific vehicular use cases. The study offers an introductory guide to prevalent 5G V2X simulation tools, highlighting each simulator’s features, strengths, and constraints. Lastly, a comparison is made based on codebase, community metrics, supported standards, statistical evaluation, and tool limitations.
