AI-based configuration of heating systems

Heating systems are often oversized during planning and installation, leading to unnecessary costs and increased resource consumption. To address this issue, a digital twin was developed in collaboration with KÜBLER GmbH as part of the Green-AI Hub Mittelstand, an AI initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). This technology integrates and analyzes various data to identify potential savings for future heating systems.

KÜBLER manufactures infrared heaters designed for particularly energy-efficient hall heating. The digital twin helps detect oversizing and optimizes the technical coordination of system components. Additionally, mixed reality glasses enable visualization of the system and will be available as an interactive exhibit at Hannover Messe. These glasses allow planned installations to be checked directly on-site – for example, in an assembly hall – helping to determine the optimal hall heating solution based on empirical data and visual feedback.

The Green-AI Hub Mittelstand supports companies across Germany in implementing AI projects to reduce resource and material consumption. It focuses particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), offering practical, solution-oriented, and on-site support. The initiative is coordinated by Zukunft - Umwelt - Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH on behalf of the BMUV, with DFKI, the Wuppertal Institute and the VDI Technology Center responsible for implementation.
