The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence is involved in projects and events within the context of the German EU Council Presidency. Please find an overview here:
"European AI-sovereignty for research and development, and tool realism regarding the immense opportunities of AI applications are goals for DFKI that drive our mission of „Human-centric AI."
The German EU Council presidency provides the ideal framework to actively promote a societal dialogue on the perspectives and potentials of European AI. The services of machine translation help to overcome language barriers, the intelligent analysis of Big Data can lead to smart applications, a smart society, and a better healthcare system.
The European commitment in the areas of transparency, reliability, and certifiability of AI technologies shows the seriousness with which research and politics are working on future-proof systems that combine economic and social benefits. In this sense, AI promotes prosperity, participation and solidarity at the same time."
Antonio Krüger, DFKI CEO
The free online machine translation service can be used to translate websites, documents or text directly entered on the translator page from and into all EU languages, allowing EU citizens to communicate across languages and borders.
The Translator is developed using German and European high-tech AI. It uses systems from leading Centers of Excellence and companies like the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), DeepL and Tilde as well as with eTranslation, the European Commission's machine translation system. It is funded by the Federal Foreign Office.

Artificial intelligence has the potential to make a decisive contribution to meeting the major challenges facing society. Success and acceptance depend largely on how responsibly AI is developed and applied. With the conference Trust in AI – Responsible AI for Science and Society, actors from Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and Europe network and discuss central questions of artificial intelligence in an international context. The focus is on AI as a driver of innovation for companies, as an object and tool for science and as a competitive factor for Europe and its partners.
The TRUSTinAI conference, organised by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Science (MBWWK), the Future Initiative Rhineland-Palatinate (ZIRP) and DFKI, will take place on 26 November 2020 online and be streamed from Kaiserslautern.
