The Pub Science Event is organized by the Oldenburg Network for Science Communication (OLWIK), in which numerous institutions from science and research in Oldenburg have joined forces. OLWIK has set itself the task of making the scientific work that often takes place behind closed doors visible to the public.
Each of the eight bars will host two lectures, each lasting 20 minutes. The first begins at 7:30 pm, the second follows at 8:45 pm. After each talk, guests will have time to write down their questions on beer mats, which will be moderated in each bar. Guests can also switch bars between talks, as they have a wide choice of topics ranging from medicine, marine biology and artificial intelligence to German studies, history and art.
The DFKI is once again a guest at the umBAUbar (Stau 25-27, Oldenburg) this year. Janina Schneider, environmental physicist in the research department Marine Perception and coordinator of the DFKI4planet competence center, will give a lecture at 8:45 p.m. on digital twins of the sea and play through various "what-if" scenarios. Her presentation will be preceded at 7:30 p.m. by Prof. Dr. Oliver Wurl, who conducts research at the Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment at the University of Oldenburg. Wurl also focuses on the sea, but his research concentrates on the thin surface layer between the ocean and the sky. The evening in the umBAUbar will be moderated by Simone Wiegand, DFKI Communications & Media.
The event is sponsored by the City of Oldenburg's Economic Development Agency and the Gertrud and Hellmut Barthel Foundation.
