The district town of Saarlouis and its municipal utilities are an ideal model region for developing a 5G concept for Saarlouis to test initial use cases. A key innovation from the perspective of grid operators is the development and implementation of a 3D-based electricity grid information system based on GIS and electricity grid status data as a mixed reality application for visualizing the operating resources. Another opportunity to utilize 5G technology in Saarlouis is in the field of tourism. Saarlouis, the city of the Sun King, has an eventful history that can be brought to life interactively for visitors to the town with the help of 5G technologies and mixed reality and augmented reality applications. DFKI is developing the energy and tourism use cases.
