Language is an essential part of our lives – we use it to share information, to describe our feelings, to discuss with others or to pass on knowledge to the next generations. It is a vital component of our social relationships and a key part of our European identity and culture. The EU alone has 24 official languages. Linguistic diversity is supported and celebrated as part of the EU’s motto “United in Diversity”. However, it can also lead to language barriers, hampering the free flow of ideas, information, commerce and culture.
The EU Council Presidency Translator addresses this challenge during the upcoming German EU Council Presidency. It is a free and secure machine translation service based on Artificial Intelligence, which enables translation into all 24 EU languages. Using the translation tool created by Tilde, which is equipped with translation systems from DeepL, DFKI, eTranslation and Tilde, citizens are able to communicate across languages and borders. eTranslation is the EU's translation service; it offers the basis to cover all official languages.
The EU Council Presidency Translator will be available from 1 July 2020 for the duration of the German EU Council Presidency. It can be used to translate websites, complete documents, or texts entered directly on the website.
