The ChargePal project aims at the research and practical testing of self-sufficient mobile DC charging robots with integrated high-performance batteries as well as their intelligent network integration in professional and commercial environments. Compared to conventional DC charging stations, mobile charging robots can supply several vehicles without the need for separate charging parking spaces. With existing on-site installations, high charging capacities can be generated on the vehicle for rapid charging. The ChargePal concept makes it possible to scale up charging robot fleets quickly and easily, and also offers considerable cost advantages compared to separate installation of storage systems and DC charging stations.
To achieve this technology, the ChargePal consortium has designed a proposed solution. Under the direction of Planungsbüro Koenzen, the university of applied science Osnabrück is responsible for the charging technology, the DFKI for the autonomous robot platform, and Klose & Oechsle GmbH for a user-friendly end-user interface and the exploitation of the project results.
Due to its modular approach and the fact that it is based on an available NEXT. robotics GmbH & Co. KG platform the ChargePal project develops and tests model-driven charging robot applications - including the integration of regenerative sources - and proves their usability in field tests at Düsseldorf Airport. The goal is to prepare the use for the German and international markets in such a way that the full market potential for robot-assisted charging can be tapped promptly.
