Abstract
A Mission Control (MC) software tool for automated task management, resource allocation and high-level fleet navigation for intra-logistics transportation services is discussed. The considered area of application is chosen with respect to current trends in automation industry and commodity handling within integrated production facilities as well as technological developments, e.g. in the area of mobile communication. The tool is developed with the objective to be integrated as a platform for real-time order management on the one, and global, conflict-free fleet navigation on the other hand. It is designed with focus on concepts of Industry 4.0 and the demand to meet objectives of such production systems in terms of flexibility, efficiency, utilization and integration. Sporadically incoming transportation tasks are scheduled dynamically with respect to deadlines, priorities and available resources, based on different real-time algorithms. On-line task migration for enhanced flexibility is enabled using a preemption mechanism. Furthermore, the system globally plans efficient vehicle paths and ensures the correct execution. In order to demonstrate the functionality, the system is deployed to test cases using a developed simulation environment. System performance is evaluated using a scalable Key Performance Indicator (KPI) function.
