TRACTAT, CAMELOT, RICAIP - Transfer of control in distributed Industrie 4.0 applications – What if robots call for help?
Wednesday, 04/14/2021, 11:00 - 11:25 a.m.
Dr. Tilman Becker, Director RICAIP-Research and Innovation Centre on Advanced Industrial Production, CzechTechnical University in Prague
Dr. Tim Schwartz, Senior Researcher and Head of the Human-Robot Communication Research Group, DFKI
Autonomous robots are also expected to be used, for example, as transport robots in industrial scenarios. Unlike rigidly programmed systems, they can adapt their behavior to current conditions and change their route if obstacles block the way. If they get into situations for which they cannot find a solution themselves and need outside help, they initiate a transfer of control (ToC). The technology is being addressed in the TRACTAT project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and its successor CAMELOT, and is finding influence in the German-Czech EU project RICAIP, where it is being extended to include aspects of distributed production. In the live broadcast, RICAIP director Dr. Tilman Becker and DFKI scientist Dr. Tim Schwartz will present the concepts and ideas developed using two practical demonstrators.
AI and design: design as a driver of user-centered innovation
Wednesday, 04/14/2021, 2:00-2:25 p.m.
Rahel Flechtner, Researcher, Research Department Interactive Textiles, DFKI
Aeneas Stankowski, Researcher, Research Department Interactive Textiles, DFKI
Andreas Schepers, Head of Corporate Communications, DFKI Berlin
Modern design approaches redefine the integrated technology and product development process and position design as a connecting discipline between basic research and application contexts. By integrating user-centered design methods at an early stage, complex research projects can be supported by concrete objectives. In this way, the quality of use is taken into account from the outset and not, as in the classical design process, only considered afterwards.
10 Years of Industry 4.0: On the Future of a German Export Hit
Official trade fair panel on the topic of 10 years of Industry 4.0 on the main channel of HANNOVER MESSE
Wednesday, 04/14/2021, 5:30 - 6:00 p.m
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wahlster, CEA, DFKI
Prof. Henning Kagermann, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Acatech
Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Management, Deutsche Messe AG
The initial article "INDUSTRIE 4.0: On the way to the 4th industrial revolution with the Internet of Things" appeared on April 1, 2011, shortly before the opening of Hannover Messe. Prof. Kagermann and Prof. Wahlster had formulated the concept together with Prof. Wolf-Dieter Lukas, who today, as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Research, has switched from the advisory to the actively shaping side of politics. At the time, under the impression of the financial crisis, the authors wanted to make the German economy more resilient and competitive by means of ambitious projects for the future via mutability and resource efficiency. The main idea was to couple real and virtual spaces in so-called cyber-physical production systems in order to use digitization advances already made in the Internet of Things and Services and in industrial applications of artificial intelligence for the next generation of factories. This was technologically interesting, but would only have made an impact in specialist circles. The term "INDUSTRIE 4.0" got to the heart of the objective.
"Since 2011, the concept of INDUSTRIE 4.0 has spread virally and is now associated with Germany around the world like the terms "kindergarten" and "autobahn." With this export hit, we have once again been able to establish an innovative concept from Germany internationally in the high-tech world for the first time, after they mostly came from America or Asia for many years. However, we must not slacken in research and innovation for the next phase of this 4th industrial revolution now that the halfway point has passed, but must continue to invest particularly in industrial AI as the second wave of digitalization, because the enormous potential of INDUSTRIE 4.0 is far from exhausted," explains Prof. Wahlster.
Resilient production through Artificial Intelligence
Thursday, 04/15/2021, 11:00 - 11:25 a.m.
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Maaß, Head of Research Department Smart Service Engineering, DFKI
Reinhard Karger, Corporate Spokesman, DFKI
Disruptions are ubiquitous in industry. They affect internal processes, such as material supply, damage to machines or tools, power outages, or employee overload and illness. In addition, disruptions can be external factors, such as systematic market changes due to innovative technologies, changes in demand, or changes in the political or financial system. To increase the resilience of individual production companies or entire production systems, disruptive potentials and trends in the market, network and company must be identified at an early stage, and acute disruptions must be responded to optimally and learned from. The development of low-threshold, collaborative Smarter Services to support AI-based resilience management, based on AI technologies and INDUSTRIE 4.0 standards for sharing data, empowers companies to anticipate and effectively respond to disruptions.
10 years of Industry 4.0 - An idea conquers the world

CLAIRE's goal is global brand awareness for "AI made in Europe". The Research Network now includes over 390 AI research labs and organizations from across Europe. Now it is joined by a similar community of commercial companies, startups and entrepreneurs - the CLAIRE Innovation Network. Both networks represent different perspectives to address the needs of their respective stakeholders. CLAIRE represents the entire community where Research and Innovation Network work closely together to realize the ambitious vision and foster the connection between research and industry.
