Energy-Efficient AI for Future Factories: EASY Project Successfully Concluded

| Experience-based Learning Systems | Innovative Factory Systems

Renningen, December 11, 2025 – The collaborative EASY project has been successfully completed. At the final milestone meeting on the Bosch Research Campus in Renningen, DFKI with its seven German partners and one Austrian cooperation partner presented their results: a dynamic edge-cloud infrastructure for energy-efficient analysis and control processes in industrial manufacturing.

Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), the project tackles a key challenge in modern production: How can AI-driven value-added services be flexibly orchestrated between local edge nodes and the cloud – without sacrificing energy efficiency or real-time capability?

DFKI contributed core expertise through its Experience-Based Learning Systems (EBLS) and Innovative Factory Systems (IFS) departments: EBLS developed case-based reasoning combined with AI planning for resource-optimized process control; IFS tested these approaches in smart production environments – in collaboration with SmartFactoryKL as a real-world lab, residing at DFKI’s site in Kaiserslautern.

The outcomes impress in practice too: Initial demonstrators have already been adopted or prototypically integrated by industry partners. Representatives from the funding agency expressed particular admiration for the high technology readiness level of the solutions developed. A comprehensive final report will consolidate key insights and further drive knowledge transfer into industrial practice.
