Designetz: a modular concept for the energy transition - from isolated solutions to an efficient energy system of the future

  • Duration:

Designetz has been selected as one of five showcases by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the new funding program "Smart Energy Showcases - Digital Agenda for the Energy Transition" (SINTEG). DFKI's research activities are funded with a total of around 2.5 million euros.

"Designetz: a modular concept for the energy transition - from isolated solutions to an efficient energy system of the future" is the most technically comprehensive demonstration project to integrate renewable energies into the supply system. It is intended to demonstrate in real terms how intelligent networks with a feed-in of up to 100% renewable energies ensure a secure and efficient energy supply and which concepts and technologies can be used for this purpose.

In the Designetz project DFKI focuses on "Security and Privacy", "Data and Services Platform" and "AI Processes for the Prediction, Analysis and Optimization of Energy Mass Data". Therefore, concepts and solutions for the development of a reference architecture and a process model for security-by-design and privacy-by-design for critical infrastructures of the energy sector as well as their implementation in accordance with CC EAL 4 are being created in a secure integrated data and services platform supported by forecasting procedures for a secure energy supply. Both for the data and services platform as well as for the forecasting procedures (including model-based diagnostics), a role and rights management is implemented. In the demonstration project "Energy grids with innovative solutions ", the DFKI is working on the conceptual design and development of intelligent procedures for the extension of the state evaluation of electricity grids by a prediction component and the subsequent improvement of control recommendations.

Designetz started on 1 January 2017 and runs for four years with a consortium of 46 experienced partners from the energy industry, industry, research and development headed by innogy SE. The energy transition project covers the three federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy with around 30 million euros. The project volume totals around 66 million euros. The Saarland is represented, among others, with Hager Group, Scheer, DFKI, Saarland University, htw saar and Stadtwerke Saarlouis. VSE AG is the representative of the consortium leader in Saarland.
