The joint Project UPLINX is a multi-site qualification program for machine learning with direct practical and application relevance. The joint project is running nationwide at all DFKI locations with the participation of the "Akademie der Technikwissenschaften" (acatech) under the direction of the Robotic Innovation Center. In the summer of 2019, UPLINX will be opening summer schools and industry workshops at all DFKI locations.
With the participation of all DFKI locations and the "Akademie der Technikwissenschaften" (acatech), the joint project UPLINX, a multi-site qualification program for machine learning (ML) with direct practical and application relevance, was launched in January 2018. The project is coordinated by the DFKI Robotics Innovation Center in Bremen and includes qualification measures ranging from university teaching to target group-oriented industrial workshops.
Due to its position as an institute of application-oriented research, the DFKI has excellent contact with target groups from the university education sector as well as a large network in the industry. In addition, it has a high level of expertise in the field of machine learning as well as a wealth of experience in training in the graduate and postgraduate area as well as in knowledge transfer to industrial users. The aim of UPLINX is to bundle DFKI's potential and competence across locations, to coordinate them, to structure them methodically and organisationally and to make them available in a sustainable way and with a strong practical relevance as an overarching offer. In this way, UPLINX is to create a qualification offer which incorporates the current state of research and education as well as dynamically integrating and consolidating future developments and trends in the field of ML. The imparting of the course contents takes place close to application and with a high practical share through the use of new infrastructures.
These are divided into four thematic priorities: "Interaction with Wearable Computing and the Internet of Things (IoT)", "Long-term learning and adaptivity in robotics", "Multimedia and Smart Services" and "Self-learning human-technology interaction". In accordance with the competencies, the locatios supply specific ML teaching programs that are made accessible to all locations via various exchange formats and thus can be used in a complementary manner.
