Abstract

The “German Standardization Roadmap (NRM) Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, as of December 2022, provides recommendations for action for standardization regarding all AI topics. One of these needs is the topic of “Development of tool criteria for testing AI systems” (need 03-05). In this document, these criteria are to be understood as requirements for such AI testing tools. The importance of tools for testing AI systems plays a central role in assessing the quality of AI systems based on the dimensions of Trustworthy AI. In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, these tools are indispensable for minimizing potential risks, providing proof that the corresponding systems meet the requirements of standards and regulations and thus strengthening user confidence. AI testing tools enable stakeholders (e.g. developers and testers) to evaluate important trustworthiness characteristics of AI systems and their components along the AI system life cycle. This is particularly important to ensure that AI applications can be used reliably, safely and securely.
