Abstract

Due to the miniaturization of projection technology it is now possible to integrate a projection unit into a mobile phone. These so called projector phones have the ability to project and explore large information spaces. On modern mobile phones the exploration of such information spaces is connected to panning and zooming, this could be eased with a projected interface. The size of the projection depends on the distance between the projection area and the projector phone. However, to create a projected area of a decent size one has to be at a certain distance from the projection. This distance makes direct interaction with the projection in a single user scenario impossible. This leads to a smalldistributed user interface where on the one side is the device with in- and output capabilities and on the other side the large projection. In this paper, we present an interface design approach that tries to cover common problems that arise from the distributed user interface of a projector phone. Therefore we utilize the dynamic peephole metaphor. We introduce a prototype of a map application that implements the proposed design ideas and validates that the design simplifies mobile map navigation.
