This demonstration shows how future mobile networks can simultaneously communicate and “perceive” their environment. The project “Platform for Real-Time Collection and Provision of Radio Channel Data” (AIkjiu) uses existing 5G networks to analyze radio network data without affecting phone calls, data transmission, or network quality. This creates a key building block for future 6G networks:
The demonstrator presents an AI-powered platform for real-time analysis of radio channel data from the mobile network. The demo shows a rendered 3D scene with example contextual information derived directly from the 5G radio channel. The solution combines edge and cloud processing to extract relevant information from the radio environment using artificial intelligence. Flexible processing layers make it possible to dynamically adapt the analysis to available edge computing power and bandwidth – either directly at the network edge or centrally in the cloud.
We demonstrate that future mobile networks can do more than just connect:
Mobile communications thus becomes a digital sensor that enables new applications in industry, transportation, security, and smart cities. Demonstrated today with 5G – tomorrow a core component of 6G.
AIkjiu is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR).
