The occasion of the conference is the opening of the AI.EDU Research Lab. This research environment for artificial intelligence in higher education at the FernUniversität will be established by Prof. Dr. habil. Claudia de Witt and the Educational Technology Labs of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) under the direction of Prof. Dr. habil. Christoph Igel and develops demonstrators for methods and applications of artificial intelligence in studies, teaching and further education.
The project is embedded in the research focus D²L², which is dedicated to the question which possibilities and necessities arise for universities from the big trends of our time: an increasing digitalization of many areas of life, an increasing diversity in society and a constantly growing need for lifelong education and training.
From various perspectives, the event will focus on the use of artificial intelligence, the importance of diversity and its interrelationships in higher education and contribute to jointly concretising the idea of the “university of the future”. In addition to lectures on methods and applications of AI, on ethical and legal questions, the research focus D²L² will present its concept and its approaches to diversity in the context of digitization to the interested public for the first time.
The event will take place within the framework of the “Hagen AI Days 2019”. A further conference in this context is this year's “knowledge offensive” on 18.11 2019 from 13.00 on the campus of the FernUniversität in Hagen.
