For the first time, interested citizens will have the opportunity to explore the new spacious extension building, which houses additional test facilities, laboratories, and workshops, among other things. The building provides a unique infrastructure for the approximately 190 employees of DFKI's Robotics Innovation Center and Cyber-Physical Systems research departments on an area of around 4,500 square meters to advance research into future topics such as human-machine cooperation, space robotics, embedded systems, and quantum AI.
During their tour of the DFKI building, visitors learn about current projects presented by scientists using numerous impressive exhibits and demonstrations. They will find out, for example, what benefits DFKI research has for application areas such as space, medicine, and industrial production, how the safety and correctness of electronic systems can be ensured, what robots are used for underwater, on foreign plantes and in healthcare, or how they can help with environmental protection and in disaster areas. There will also be the opportunity to see the "B-Human" team, the current world champion in robot soccer, in action, watch a dance performance by the humanoid robot RH5, observe robots diving in the large saltwater pool or climbing the moon crater, and marvel at the ARTER walking excavator on the outdoor test site.
In addition, interactive formats, talks with experts and a cinema with exciting videos from the world of research – e.g., from experiments and field trials in Germany and abroad – complement the extensive program on this day.
