Field experiments do not take place under the fixed conditions of a laboratory, but in the environment where a process actually happens: on farmland, in road traffic or on the coast. Weather, soil conditions or other external influences can only be controlled to a limited extent there, so an experiment can hardly be repeated identically. For the data to remain traceable and reusable, the conditions under which they were created must be recorded as metadata. DaFF develops a common data model and a concept for managing field data for this purpose. From these, it derives a blueprint for a field data manager that other institutions can adopt. DFKI contributes field experiments with robots in agriculture.
