Software-based risk assessment based on asset administration shells for safe human-machine interaction

Software-based risk assessment based on asset administration shells for safe human-machine interaction

  • Duration:

Manufacturers and operators of systems in industrial manufacturing are required by law to prepare an assessment of the risks and hazards that may arise from the operation of the machines in order to ensure occupational safety. Against the backdrop of changeable production, new challenges arise in this context, as obligations to comply with safety are derived from every change to an integrated manufacturing system, i.e. including the reconfiguration or conversion of system components.

"BaSySafe" addresses the challenges specific to risk and hazard assessments (RHA) in changeable production by extending the reference implementation provided by BaSys 4.0 with a holistic approach to integrating and maintaining safety-related information in industrial manufacturing. In the project, a standardized, machine-supported procedure for the creation of RHA for assembly systems based on the concept of the Asset Adminstration Shell (AAS) is developed for this purpose, which extends the functional scope, the degree of maturity and thus the attractiveness of the BaSys middleware by the dimension of safety. An essential component of the solution approach is the provision of a model-based tool for viewing, editing and combining RHAs, which is intended to be compatible with the engineering tools currently available on the market for easier use in practice. The AAS-based approach will provide safer assembly system reconfiguration at execution time, as well as permanent and easy-to-find documentation of safety issues. Machine configurations that are questionable in terms of safety can thus be noticed and remedied at an early stage.
