Abstract

In various sectors of task automation, logistics is an indispensable piece in chains of consecutive stages. Logistics denotes an operational function in organizations that deals with the control and execution of flows of information or matter such as goods. A more confined situation is the Intra-Logistics, which refers to the flows of materials and goods within a company’s premises. In industrial production facilities, transport of materials, production segments or final products is constantly happening. In order to enable a high level of flexibility and versatility, the transported pieces may be carried by mobile robots (Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)). Exactly these properties that create the desired features of a logistics infrastructure - mobility and adaptability in control - likewise cause great challenges. This article starts off with the utilization of an Intra-Logistics system, derives the requisition to its capabilities and from this, the demands on a within employed interconnection structure, which is the main focus of the paper. Being inflicted tough reliability constraints, an outlook for strengthening the network in this regard is presented as a central element of the analysis.
