Abstract

In this paper, we describe our design and development process of a humanoid robot, Pepper, as a debate partner by integrating open-source, offline Generative Pre-trained Transformer models, namely GPT-J 6B and BLOOM. We used our tool flow, which integrates open-source offline tools to animate a robotic agent to listen, speak and gesture in a human-like manner, to create a debate partner in a humanoid robot. This paper provides a technical description of the integration of GPT models into our tool flow. The first implementation was presented to a group of teachers and as a second prototype, several questioning schemes and post filtering were implemented to attain better responses from a robotic agents. The developed second prototype will be used for a pilot study with prospective users.
