Profile

Roland Aydin studied computer science at the Technical University of Munich and the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA), and medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Among other roles, he served as a research scientist at the Chair of Numerical Mechanics at the Technical University of Munich and as a department head at the Helmholtz Center Hereon. Before coming to Saarbrücken, he held a junior professorship in Machine Learning for Virtual Materials Design at the Technical University of Hamburg. His work lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and data-driven methods in the natural and engineering sciences. In his research, Roland Aydin combines AI methods with simulation-based approaches to analyze and solve complex scientific problems. A particular focus of his work is the integration of large language models with autonomous agent systems and other machine learning methods, as well as research on specific alignment methods.
