MoReEye – AI-Powered Report Generation Directly from Surgical Videos

With the launch of the MoReEye project, automated surgical report generation is one step closer to reality. The AI analyzes surgical videos, drafts reports, and helps identify errors and omissions.

Preparing surgical reports adds a significant burden for ophthalmic surgeons. In the fast-paced daily routine of a hospital, reports are often not written until several hours or even days after surgery. This increases the risk of inaccuracies and errors due to memory lapses.

MoReEye aims to reduce the burden on hospital staff by automating surgical report generation and preventing errors. This is based on the automatic analysis of routinely recorded surgical videos. Relevant information is extracted from these videos and then converted into a coherent draft report using a text-generation component. Surgeons always retain control. They can review the automatically generated text, correct it as needed, and approve it. The system also helps identify errors, inconsistencies, and omissions.

In addition to reducing the workload, MoReEye can help make surgical reports available more quickly and improve documentation quality. Furthermore, such a system can facilitate the integration of international colleagues into routine clinical workflows.
