Abstract
Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) are not only one of the several promising enabling technologies for the sixth generation (6G) of wireless systems but also a very active field in current research. The approaches range from passive elements to meta-material and liquid crystals. In addition to the widely promised properties such as the extension of coverage and application scenarios of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and Industry 5.0, one aspect is increasingly shifting into the focus of research: the security properties. Therefore, this work provides an overview of different attack vectors on wireless systems and at the same time highlights mitigation strategies and security advantages arising from the application of RIS.
