Secret Key Generation for LoRaWAN using Autoencoders for Reciprocity Enhancement

In this research, we propose leveraging Physical Layer Security (PLS) for Secret Key Generation (SKG) to enable secure session key management within Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN). We further introduce the use of autoencoders for Reciprocity Enhancement (RE) to enhance the SKG performance in terms of Bit Disagreement Rate (BDR) and Key Generation Rate (KGR). To evaluate the eff ectiveness of our proposed approach, we con- ducted experiments using an experimental LoRaWAN testbed. We present the obtained results, which highlight the promising potential of PLS based key management in terms of improved BDR and KGR using Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) measurements. The fi ndings further demonstrate the feasibility and benefi ts of integrating autoencoders into the PLS based key management process in LoRaWANs.
