RICAIP is an international distributed research center of excellence that focuses on research in robotics and Artificial Intelligence. RICAIP is based on the strategic partnership of leading Czech and German research institutions, namely CIIRC CTU in Prague, CEITEC BUT in Brno, as well as ZeMA and DFKI in Saarbrücken.
RICAIP’s research topics include multi-site and distributed manufacturing, supported by the new opportunities created by advances in Industry 4.0 and digitalization.
In the demonstrated use-case, a collaborative robot arm – present at one production site – can be intuitively controlled by somebody at a different site via means of a Virtual Reality headset in real-time, thus enabling close interaction between far-away sites. This interaction is enabled using a Digital Twin of the production cell, which is fed by additional sensors to also reflect changes in the real environment.
Besides site-distributed collaboration, the developed technology can also be applied to remote manufacturing or remote maintenance.
